Five (5) Safety Tips for Self-Security in Nigeria of Today.

Security of lives and properties is indeed a vital aspect of human endeavour in the course of running day-day activities. Removing security naturally turns everything upside down which is simply  the situation of the country, Nigeria. How did we get here under President Muhammadu Buhari's administration? And how can we edge over existing odds as an average Nigerian brothers and sisters?

I think we are in this mess due to our recklessness as a country or say our reactive approach to important things. The government played their role by being too lackadaisical about security matters at its utmost beginning. This is why a lot of rural farmers and dwellers have lost their lives without any succor to quench the roaring fire before it gets out of hand. Now that it is out of hand, security operatives are not fully backed by the incumbency to pull down the strongholds. What do we do as average Nigerians?

The ball is in our court and we must play it to our favour. We are meant to thread softly in the land of our forefathers. What a shame! We are meant to be very vigilant like cultists who is always running for his or her dear life. Observation, alertness, and communication are skills we should learn to sail through today's insecurity issues.

Long distance journey especially across other region is sweet for some people, definitely not for me, but it now comes with a lot of safety measures. I heard that travelling along Abuja to Kaduna road is safe on particular days of the week; Monday, Thursday and Saturday. Other days are shooting zones, kidnap zones, and kill zones in this same Nigeria. To think of this alone is disheartening, talkless of being in that mess. Shame!

Kidnapping as a business is gradually finding its way into the Northern part of the country. My Abuja friends told me toll gate fee from Kaduna to Abuja was at a time 2million naira cash, now it has moved up to 4million naira cash or you risk the chances of losing your life. Abduction has been going on in the North with requests for ransom from the government and they are getting it. This story is simply explaining the dangerous nature of our navigation to other regions of the country. The tips here are to; avoid early morning travelling, avoid late night travels, avoid lonely paths regardless of how short the journey can be through it, avoid travelling alone, drive with all alertness.

Everything is not about travelling here and there, our homes must be carefully considered too. What are you doing to protect your homes from external attack as an average Nigerian? Do you think the police officers would help you with that? OYO. What you should do are to; fence your landed property, raise alarm in your neighbourhood if you find anything strange, close all doors before you leave the house, endeavour to return home early or stay where you feel safe when late.
