SCALE OF PREFERENCE
At the basic level of our educational pursuit, a skeletal knowledge
of the concept “scale of preference” is taught in the subject matter of
Economics. In reality, the concept has a deep root in our day-day activities.
The tremendous and unexpected success or the slow pace of development of any
man is attributed to the choices he made based on the priority attached to it.
As THERMOMETER is
for measuring temperature, WIND VANE
for ascertaining the direction of the wind and ANEMOMETER for measuring the speed of the wind. On PRIORITY LEVEL, no scale has been enunciated for measuring it globally. The
arising question is, What do we measure? Priority !!! How do we measure it?. We
are therefore left to arrange our needs, wants, or task on order of priority
i.e. how important are our designated needs. Making choices has an underline
importance on “time management” – the way we spend our time has a connectedness
with the outcome of our choices.
The focal point of this piece is to reinstate our mindset
on the essentials of making the right choices amongst all necessity in life.
Since human want are insatiable, it is obvious that some needs are more
important than the other. Some needs are for the present time, some for the
future while some are luxuries that are not necessarily needed. Most people
tend to make wrong choices by pursuing the wrong need at the detriment of the
most important.
Nevertheless, a practical example is inherent in having a
designated date for the submission of three different assignments. The first is
to be submitted in a week to this time, the second to be collected in three
days while the last is given a deadline for one month. Attempting to the last
assignment first is a wrong choice made considering the nearness of the
submission date of the second assignment.
In
reality, people tend to find it difficult to ascertain which priority is the
most important. Even when they have the knowledge, most people tend to live in
an illusion that they are the chief engineer of their time. Most times, such
people fail because they do not have a strategic plan to absorb or comprehend
the situation when it boomerangs. Having chosen to write this piece at this
time, it has therefore opened doors on my next piece.
Worthy of note, endeavour to make sure your choices are
the right ones for the moment without minding or copying friends opinion.
Thanks for your attention.
Brilliant write up CEO, Kip it up Sir.
